At Onyx Premiere Hair Studio our goal is to provide our guests with great hair and great vibes. Our staff is recognized for their unsurpassed teamwork, creativity, communication, variety, knowledge, and positive energy. We aim to deliver top-quality beauty services in a warm and welcoming environment.

At Onyx, we are dedicated to continuous education and constantly improving our skills. We have guest educators from Redken, Wella, and other companies come to teach classes on the latest techniques several times each year. All designers are mentored by our Master Stylist/Founder, Kate Lagueux-Dever. This creates consistency in our overall service quality. At Onyx, we work together as a team to make sure all our clients are well taken care of. So you may enjoy the talent of one or all of our designers!
Designers
Kate has been in the beauty industry since 2003. She was a traveling platform artist & educator for RUSK from 2004-2009. In January of 2006, Kate zealously opened Onyx Hair Studio to provide her hometown of Roanoke with exceptional salon service and experiences with a first class team of stylists that she continually teaches and mentors. Kate is a genuine, confident, well-rounded master stylist with excellent communication skills & a specialty in custom hair coloring. She is truly passionate about her craft and it definitely shows through her vibrant and positive attitude.
Kate Lagueux-Dever
Hena Sharples
Hena loves creating beautiful blondes. She is also very talented at special occasion makeup and braids/updos. Her quirky and fun personality always makes for a good experience! Hena is currently in esthetician school as well, to further her education on skin care.
Katelyn Willis
Katelyn’s bold and vivacious personality is equal to her skill. She is our tape extension specialist but is also wonderful at balayage/ombre and men’s faded cuts! You will always have a good conversation when in her chair.
Katy Warren
Katy started her training apprenticeship journey in 2009. She is a curl whisperer with natural curly hair herself. She also enjoys doing color, special event hair/makeup, keratin complex smoothing services and much more! If you are looking for a kind, creative personable stylist with a positive bubbly personality. Katy may be the one for you!
Jeanet Moore
Jeanet is a graduate of The Paul Mitchell School as of February 2023! Jeanet loves doing natural hair colors, haircuts, and special event makeup. Her technique and communication skills are far beyond her experience. Jeanet is genuinely personable and she can't wait to see you in her chair!
Melyssa
Melyssa moved to Roanoke from New Jersey and has placed her roots in Onyx. We admire her eccentric style and artistic brain. She has a super positive, fun personality that you will absolutely enjoy. Melyssa is super talented at custom colors, vivids, and makeup! If you are looking for a true artist, she's the one for you.
Lauren
Lauren is our bright shining joy at the front desk! You won’t mistake her excitement and positivity with anyone else! She is our head receptionist, office manager, social media creator… she literally does all the things! We absolutely love her laugh and genuine bubbly & hospitable nature and we bet you will, too!!
Sydney
Sydney is a licensed esthetician who got her training at Starkey Medical Aesthetics located in Salem, Virginia acquiring 2 years of practical and master's training. Sydney is also a certified lash technician with many years of experience specializing in classic, hybrid, and volume lashes. She is also licensed in Permanent Cosmetic Tattooing taught by the world-renowned Paola Soto, a grand master of Academy S in Permanent Cosmetics. Sydney specializes in Aquarella Lip Blushing, Faux Freckles, Eyeliner, Microblading, Combo Brows, as well as Magic Shading (Powder Brows) Sydney also offers lash and brow lifts.
She is only taking appointments at Onyx on Saturdays.

Extensions
Tape Hair extensions can be used for length, color placement, and volume. We offer free consultations to discuss how much hair and what color hair will be required for your goal. A free consultation is required for a quote. We can order hair for you or you are welcome to bring in your own tape extension hair for us to apply but we do not guarantee the performance or longevity of outside hair.
