Kate has been in the beauty industry since 2003. She was a traveling platform artist & educator for RUSK from 2004-2009. In January of 2006, Kate zealously opened Onyx Hair Studio to provide her hometown of Roanoke with exceptional salon service and experiences with a first class team of stylists that she continually teaches and mentors. Kate is a genuine, confident, well-rounded master stylist with excellent communication skills & a specialty in custom hair coloring. She is truly passionate about her craft and it definitely shows through her vibrant and positive attitude.

Hena loves creating beautiful blondes and natural lived-in colors. She's also talented at special occasion braids/updos. She always makes sure to teach her clients how to style and care for their hair at home.
Hena also is our skin specialist and offers relaxing facials. She has been a staple of Onyx since January 2018.

Mel moved to Roanoke from New Jersey and has planted her roots at Onyx. We admire her eccentric style and artistic mind, paired with a super positive, fun personality you’ll instantly enjoy. She specializes in custom color, vivid transformations, unique cuts, and makeup, bringing creativity and intention to every guest in her chair. Mel creates a safe, welcoming space where individuality is celebrated. If you’re looking for a true artist, she’s the one for you. Melyssa has been at Onyx since January 2022.

Serena is a graduate of Paul Mitchell School and is certified in hair extensions. She enjoys working with all hair types and has a strong skill set in men’s cutting and braiding. Serena has a confident personality and has been part of the Onyx team since January 2024.

Lauren's upbeat, welcoming energy makes every visit feel like a treat. She offers custom airbrush spray tans for that perfect glow, along with permanent jewelry and hair tinsel to add a little extra sparkle to your look. Whether you’re getting event-ready or just want to feel your best, Lauren’s got you covered!

Katelyn’s bold, confident personality shines through in her high-quality work. She specializes in custom color, color correction, and a wide variety of cutting styles, and is also Onyx’s tape extension specialist. You can always count on a great conversation when you’re in her chair. Katelyn has been a staple at Onyx since December 2017.

Jeanet specializes in seamless hair extensions, non-surgical hair systems, and customized colors. She is passionate about helping women feel confident, especially those experiencing thinning or breakage. With a focus on scalp health and long-term hair integrity, her approach is gentle, intentional, and deeply personalized. She has been at Onyx since December 2022.

Hayatt has been licensed since 2022 and has a passion for alternative cuts and colors, custom looks, and men’s cutting. She is also certified in hair extensions and takes her time to ensure every detail is just right. Her sweet, quiet personality is something we absolutely adore. Hayatt has been part of the Onyx team since April 2024.

Hayden has been behind the chair since 2017 and is especially known for her expertise with natural texture and curls. She works confidently with all hair types and color techniques..from seamless balayage, vivids, to beautifully defined type 4 curls-always tailoring each service to the individual. A former Assistant Color Instructor and certified Wella Master Color Expert, Hayden combines advanced technical skill with her fun welcoming presence.
